Invasive Removal, Clearing the Area

Working in the Weeds

Before the area was cleared of invasives like this thorny mile-a-minute, and multiflora rose, just making measurements was a challenge. Planting and creating a path and gathering space would have been impossible.

Rooting Out Callery Pear

You can see that this invasive Callery Pear tree was previously cut down and then grew back from the stump. Pulling it up by the roots should keep it from growing back again. A Callery Pear can spread quickly and crowd out native plants.

Next Steps

  • Install logs for seating
  • Spread wood chips over gathering space and trail
  • Plant trees
  • Plant shrubs
  • Spread mulch
  • Remove invasive vines

Help with the Restoration

We will be needing volunteers to help with planting shrubs in November, and later, for removing vines and watering trees and shrubs.
