Before the area was cleared of invasives like this thorny mile-a-minute, and multiflora rose, just making measurements was a challenge. Planting and creating a path and gathering space would have been impossible.

Rooting Out Callery Pear
You can see that this invasive Callery Pear tree was previously cut down and then grew back from the stump. Pulling it up by the roots should keep it from growing back again. A Callery Pear can spread quickly and crowd out native plants.
