In nature, the Woodland Edge connects the forest with an adjacent habitat. In suburban landscapes, the woodland edge often forms the transition between the forest and lawn or pavement. It is sunnier, warmer, and drier that the forest interior. Young canopy trees grow here and may eventually grow into mature forest. So do shrubs, vines, understory trees, and other plants that need more sun than they would get deep in the forest.

Restoration at St. Andrew by the Bay

We started with an area in which some black locust trees and lots of invasive plants were growing. After removing most of the invasives, we planted 20 native trees and 63 native shrubs with the help of many volunteers and partners.

Grow Native Plants

Native plants are good for the bay and all the critters that live in it and around it!
